Class Overview

Welcome to third grade!  You are about to begin an exciting educational journey.  I will be your guide as you become a reading detective and investigate energy and matter, animal habitats, outer space, and the people that lived in our area hundreds of years ago.  How did they live?  Why?  You will learn to deconstruct multiplication and division facts, use fractions to measure and compare, and even to solve complex, real-world problems using your new math skills. You will read incredible fantasy stories and write some of your own too.  It's going to be a great adventure!

This year, student expectations will be based on the new Common Core State Standards.  These comprehensive standards encourage student-centered learning and collaboration.  Students will develop critical thinking skills and incorporate technology into the daily learning process.  See the Core Standards Website for specific details of the third grade English Language Arts and Mathematics standards.

Exciting news!  This year Earl Warren Elementary is officially a No Excuses University school.  Our students are on the road to college and we have built 6 exceptional systems to provide a strong foundation.  To learn more about these exceptional systems and the NEU network, visit http://noexcusesu.com/.

Room 310 students are scholars!  As scholars, students are expected to recognize the importance of a good education and their behavior shows this focus on learning.  All students will be treated with respect by staff and by other students.  Bullying or unscholarly behavior will not be tolerated in Room 310 or at Earl Warren Elementary.

All third graders will be participating in Earl Warren's Accelerated Reader Incentive Program.  Students will earn recognition and prizes by passing computerized reading comprehension quizzes on popular and classic children's books.  To check the reading level of your child's books, visit the AR Book Finder.
